SSI/SSDI Outreach, Access, and Recovery (SOAR) is a program designed to increase access to SSI/SSDI for eligible adults who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness and have a mental illness, medical impairment, and/or a co-occurring substance use disorder. SOAR is an initiative with curriculum to train staff working in the community to assist disabled adults experiencing homelessness to apply for SSI/SSDI benefits. The Michigan SOAR initiative is supported by The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), and the Michigan State Housing Development Authority.
