The Michigan Main Street program promotes economic revitalization of downtowns through historic preservation. The Building Basics presentation is conducted by Debra Ball Johnson, MMS Design Specialist and historic architect in the State Historic Preservation Office. The presentation focuses on the history of downtowns and the evolution of older buildings over time. It also covers good historic preservation principles and practices. This enables building owners to maintain the unique qualities of their historic buildings, while rehabbing them to create functional retail space for today’s needs. The result is authentic, vibrant downtowns that not only attract visitors and new residents, but enhance the lives all residents, long-time and new.
Speaker: Debra Ball Johnson, Michigan Main Street
